Malew and Castletown Burial Ground extension heads weekly planning list

Two houses on The New Inn's former car park in Laxey and fire escapes at an Onchan activity centre are among 12 applications. Comments close on 30 October.

Plans to enlarge the Malew and Castletown Burial Ground at Great Meadow lead the latest weekly list of planning applications, which the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture published on Friday.

The scheme, reference 26/00614/B, would cover part of field 434062 and bring a timber shed, a group of curved benches at its centre with other benches elsewhere, asphalt paths, a boundary wall in Manx stone and landscaping.

The entrance would also change, with the existing gates moved to a new position and a screened space created for bins.

In all, 12 applications appear on the list, five of them in Douglas. Other notable schemes include:

  • Laxey: two semi-detached houses, with parking and access on site, on what was The New Inn’s car park on New Road (26/00751/B).
  • Laxey: a new house on land beside Rockwood on Ramsey Road, with retaining walls, landscaping, boundary work and a new vehicle access (26/00704/B).
  • Onchan: fire escapes on the outside of the activity centre at Ballakaighen Farm, Whitebridge Road, with changes inside and a new parking area (25/90327/B).
  • Braddan: security fencing on the public footpath of the heritage trail beside the Old Marown Engineering Building, Main Road (26/00727/B).
  • Douglas: turning the basement and ground floors of 13 Kensington Road from a dental practice into a flat (26/00921/B).
  • Douglas: rooftop solar panels, a wider vehicle entrance made by altering the back boundary wall, a new garage door and a relocated oil tank at 3 Queens Avenue (26/00728/B).
  • Douglas: a hanging sign, not illuminated, at 2 Albert Street (26/00754/D).

The remaining applications are extensions at Rookwood on Quarterbridge Road (26/00753/B) and Westport on Devonshire Road (26/00685/B) in Douglas, both of which would see an existing garage knocked down; an orangery in place of a conservatory at The Coach House on Ballagawne Road, Ballabeg (26/00735/B); and a replacement roof at Lynton on The Crescent, Baldrine (26/00684/B).

Comments on any of the applications must be in by Friday, 30 October. They can be made through the online planning service or in writing to the Secretary to the Planning Committee at Murray House, Mount Havelock, Douglas.

The Department warns that all written comments will be open to public view and form part of any proceedings connected with an application, and that anonymous submissions will not be taken into account.

The Planning Committee next meets in public at 10:00 on Monday, 12 October, at Murray House and on Microsoft Teams. People who meet the requirements and register beforehand can speak at the meeting.
