Community guidelines

Keep it civil, keep it Manx. Here's what we remove.

Comments are open on every page. Disagree as strongly as you like with ideas, decisions and policies — not with people's identities.

We remove

  • Hate speech — attacks on people because of their race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, disability, age, pregnancy or marriage status (the protected characteristics in the Isle of Man's Equality Act 2017).
  • Threats, harassment and bullying, including wishing harm on anyone.
  • Personal information — addresses, phone numbers, car registrations or workplaces of private individuals.
  • Allegations of crime against named people that haven't been charged or proven in court.
  • Anything that could prejudice a live court case, or identify a child or a victim of a sexual offence.
  • Spam, advertising and links to scams.

How moderation works

Comments are screened when they are posted. Every day a moderation agent reviews all new and reported comments against these guidelines and removes those that break them. Anyone can report a comment with the Report link — three reports hide it until it is reviewed.

Repeated breaches lead to a block. Comments are the views of their authors, not of Manx Wire.
