Sunken block-paved crossings on Douglas Promenade to be patched with asphalt

Work near Victoria Street and Regent Street starts on Monday, 19 October and should take about two weeks, with granite to be laid later.

The Department of Infrastructure is to resurface pedestrian crossings on Loch Promenade in Douglas after parts of the block paving sank and several bricks were damaged.

The crossings, close to Victoria Street and Regent Street, are due to be worked on from Monday, 19 October, with the job expected to last around a fortnight, the BBC reported.

The department said asphalt would go down as a stopgap to keep the crossings safe until granite can be laid in their place. It said the work was taking place “solely on safety grounds”.

Other worn crossings are also due to receive asphalt repairs in the months ahead, the BBC said.

The crossings were part of the revamp of Douglas Promenade. According to the BBC, the scheme was subsequently found to contain more than 900 defects, among them trip hazards and uneven road surfaces.
