The Heritage Open Days festival run by Manx National Heritage is into its second weekend, with sites across the island welcoming visitors on Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday, 11 October, a Leyland Comet and a Dennis Dart will run 45-minute mystery tours of Douglas from Derby Castle during the afternoon, Manx Radio reported. Visitors can also look round the Banks Circus Depot.
The classic buses are out because this year’s festival, the 17th, falls half a century after Isle of Man Transport was nationalised.
The six-day festival has more than 90 events, some ticketed and some open-door. Katie King, Manx National Heritage’s Curator of Art and Social History, told Manx Radio that places on some smaller events sell out in minutes.
“We often joke that it’s a bit like getting Glastonbury tickets, trying to get Heritage Open Day tickets,” she said.
Also on the programme:
- Saturday: a walk from Glen Mona to Dhoon along the Old Douglas Road, the Great Walls of Laxey, a stroll around old Peel and a bilingual tour of Tynwald Site in St John’s
- Sunday: Okell’s Brewery, the Manx Electric Railway’s workshop at Derby Castle and a walk at the Manx Wildlife Trust’s new Creggans reserve
- Both days: steam railway workshop tours and Ballaugh Heritage Trust’s Manx Gaelic exhibition
