A further 700,000 seats are being taken out of easyJet’s winter schedule, with the airline saying it wants to save fuel during the quieter months so that it can be used at busier times of the year.
The airline confirmed the reduction to the Financial Times, Manx Radio reported on Friday. The seats removed add up to roughly two days’ worth of easyJet flying.
The carrier, which operates services to and from the island, was unable to tell Manx Radio whether any Isle of Man flights would be among those affected.
The latest reduction follows earlier cuts to the same season. Manx Radio said the Financial Times had also reported that between 600,000 and 700,000 seats were taken out of the winter programme over the summer.
The company presented the changes as part of its normal planning. “Like all airlines, we review our schedule on an ongoing basis and sometimes make some changes,” a spokesperson said.
The spokesperson described the alterations to winter flying as “a tiny proportion of our flying programme”.
The airline said it makes any changes ahead of time and usually takes out flights on routes it serves more than once a day, so that “customers can easily move to an alternative flight”.
EasyJet has not said which routes or weeks will lose flights, or how much notice passengers with existing bookings will get.
