Matt Bostock named in Great Britain squad for track worlds in Shanghai

The Commonwealth Games points race champion joins Ethan Vernon in the men's endurance group for the championships, which start on Wednesday and double as an LA 2028 qualifier.

Manx cyclist Matt Bostock will race for Great Britain at the UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai, China, which run from Wednesday 14 to Monday 19 October, Energy FM Sport reported.

Results at the championships also count towards qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The selection follows a strong season for Bostock on both road and track. His biggest moment came in Glasgow, where he took Commonwealth Games gold in the 40km points race.

He had already worn the British jersey this year as part of the team pursuit line-up that finished third at the European Championships in Konya, Turkey.

Bostock currently holds three national titles in two disciplines. He won the elimination and scratch races at the National Track Championships in February and has added the National Circuit Race, a title he has now won twice.

In Shanghai he will line up in a six-rider men’s endurance group alongside Paris 2024 silver medallist Ethan Vernon, Henry Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Mark Stewart and Ollie Wood. Emma Finucane leads the British sprinters.

Every day of the championships will be shown on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
