Viking and Celtic crosses go on public show in Andreas Church after conservation work

Crosses moved in from the churchyard and a storeroom are shown with drawings by Philip Kermode, the Manx Museum's first director.

A collection of Viking and Celtic crosses can now be seen by the public inside Andreas Church, following conservation work.

Some of the historic pieces had previously stood outside in the churchyard, while others had been kept in a storeroom within the building, Manx Radio and Energy FM reported. The new display brings them together under the church roof.

Information boards accompanying the crosses also carry drawings by Philip Kermode, who became the Manx Museum’s first director.

Jackie Faragher, chair of Andreas Commissioners, the parish’s local authority, described the display as “brilliant” when she spoke to Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper, who also photographed the crosses.

The church is open every day from 10:00 to 16:00, and visitors are welcome to view the artefacts during those hours.
